General Health, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and Coping Strategies of Nurses Working in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Units

Background: Nurses working in intensive care units (ICUs) are more direct contact with COVID-19 patients than other healthcare team members and vulnerable to mental disorders. This study aimed determine the general health status, posttraumatic stress disorder, coping strategies of nurses employed units. Methods: It was a cross-sectional descriptive study. Using census method, 102 Iran University Medical Sciences Tehran, Iran, were recruited as sample 2022. The questionnaire (GHQ-28), impact events-revised (IES-R), ways (WCQ) used research instruments. data analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient, independent t-test, analysis variance SPSS software, version 16. significance level set at P<0.05. Results: overall mean 32.22±12.21, indicating mild psychological distress most nurses. Somatic symptoms had highest (9.16±4.06) among GHQ-28 subscales. disorder 39.07±14.79. means problem-focused emotion-focused 48.03±13.44 40.78±11.70, respectively. Most (60.8%) generally suffered deal stressors during pandemic. No significant relationship existed between main variables nurses’ characteristics (P>0.05). Conclusion: experienced disorders (general stress) To reduce on nurses, paying attention their is essential. Given adverse effect studying these quality performance suggested.
